RESUMÉ / Visual artist Tineke van Veen researches and visualizes in her practice the concept of safety. Feeling save related to vulnerable situations in a personal and in a broader intercultural context. What means safety for people when they are facing extreme difficult and vulnerable circumstances and how do they experience loss and find power to survive? What kind of different cultural values open new perspectives? Her latest work concerns the concept of safety related to the disturbed relationship between man and nature, the changed perspective of landscape by nuclear contamination
Van Veen visualizes the concept of safety in objects, installations, film and photography or a combination of these practices. At the one hand the work is self-reflective at the other hand it invites the spectator to reflect on his own position. By using reflective materials as black-painted glass or silver-plated blown glass the viewer becomes part of the artwork. Her neon-handwritten words raise questions and provoke awareness. In her recent work she uses the medium film and photography.
